Monument
"Beneath the cities that lay buried under the ashes, traces of even older cities were found, in their turn buried in a further past. Its inhabitants had built over the layers of ashes covering the previous city. Thus, layers of cities came into being; streets submerged beneath streets, crossings below crossings; the city alive built on top of cities sleeping."

Monument, which was filmed in China, is a brief study for the film Echoes. The film uses parts of the script of Echoes. Both films are about the experience of layers of time. How these layers can come together, like places in a folded map. In completely different contexts, cultural and geographically, Monument gets a very different meaning.
